A Wise (and Adorable!) Little Visitor: Rescuing a Screech Owlet
It’s not every day that we have a patient as unique and as adorable as a young screech owl, but this week, one brave little owlet found its way to The Hometown Veterinarian thanks to the kindness of a good Samaritan.
Spotted along the side of a busy road, the fledgling owl was in distress, being bullied and pecked by crows. Faced with the heartbreaking scene, a passerby chose not to simply drive on by but stopped to intervene. Recognizing the danger the owlet was in, she safely rescued it from what was sure to be a tragic fate and brought it to our hospital for care.
Upon arrival, Dr. Jacobson examined the owlet and immediately offered medical attention to stabilize it after the traumatic encounter. Though understandably shaken, the little owl showed promising signs of recovery. Our team has been providing care while we arrange transport to a dedicated wildlife rehabilitation facility where the owl will continue its journey back to the wild.
In the meantime, this wise (and undeniably adorable!) little creature has captured our hearts. While resting comfortably at our hospital, we couldn’t resist posing one of life’s most enduring mysteries: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? True to the owl’s reputation for wisdom, our feathered friend is keeping this age-old secret under wraps for now!
We are hopeful for the owlet’s full recovery and are deeply inspired by the good Samaritan’s compassion and quick action. Together, we’ve helped give this resilient little owl a second chance at life.
Here’s to brighter skies and safer days ahead for our feathered visitor. Stay wise (and adorable!), little one! 🦉❤️
